A notebook can hold ideas, reminders, and observations without needing an elaborate system. Begin each new entry with a date and a short heading. Leave enough space between topics to make earlier notes easy to find.

For tasks, use a small mark in the margin and cross it out when the work is complete. For information you expect to revisit, add a page number to a simple index near the front. The index can grow gradually instead of being planned in advance.

Review a few recent pages before starting a busy day. Move only the unfinished items that still matter into your current list. A notebook becomes useful through regular attention, not through perfect handwriting or a complicated collection of symbols.
